Teri Romano BSN, MBA, CPC, CMDP

Teri Romano has over twenty-five years of consulting and teaching experience in the health care field. Ms. Romano works with physician groups and hospitals combining a background in clinical systems with solid approaches to operational and organizational problem solving.

Teri is co-developer and instructor for the national coding and reimbursement workshops sponsored by the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. She also provides on-site customized coding and reimbursement courses to physician and hospital groups, specializing in neurosurgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, and vein well as E/M and surgical case audits to assist physician groups in their compliance activities. In addition, she consults with vein, vascular, general surgical, and neurosurgical practices on practice management issues including service line development, revenue enhancement, staffing models, appeals management and expense reduction.

Teri has worked with single location and nationwide vein centers in the development of operational and clinical processes to ensure compliance with regional and national vein coverage criteria. She has also worked extensively with physician groups in responding to payment denials and audit demands. Ms. Romano has also worked with neurosurgeons, neurologists, vein surgeons, vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists and hospitals in the development of Neurovascular, Stroke, Vein and Vascular Centers.

Teri holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Illinois. She has a Certified Professional Coder (C.P.C.) credential awarded by the American Association of Professional Coders (A.A.P.C.) and a Certified Medical Documentation Professional (C.M.D.P.) credential awarded by the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance.

Teri has held executive positions with a state public health department, a health research and consulting firm, (for which she founded the consulting division,) and a national provider of continuing medical education. As Operations Director and one of the founders of the Illinois Trauma System, Ms. Romano was instrumental in establishing the first statewide system of trauma centers and the Illinois paramedic program. In this capacity she originated a new nursing specialty, the Trauma Nurse Specialist, now nationally recognized. She acted as a consultant to the federal Division of Trauma and Emergency Services in facilitating trauma center development throughout the country.
