Robert P. Naftel, MD, FAANS
Dr. Naftel is an associate professor in the department of neurological surgery at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He came to Vanderbilt from the University of Pittsburgh, where he served as a fellow in the department of neurosurgery and from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he completed his residency in neurosurgery. Dr. Naftel’s practice encompasses the entirety of the specialty, and his clinical and research interests include pediatric hydrocephalus, epilepsy surgery and surgery for childhood spasticity. He has trained in minimally invasive endoscopic techniques for the treatment of hydrocephalus, brain tumors and spinal disorders. He participates as a site investigator in the multi-institutional Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network and he is the director of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship Program.
