Dr. Kameda-Smith is a fifth-year neurosurgical resident at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Having recently completed her PhD in biochemistry as part of the surgeon scientist program. Studying stem cell neurobiology at the McMaster Stem Cell and Cancer Research Institute, Dr. Kameda-Smith applied the cancer stem cell theory to investigate the role of the RNA binding protein Musashi-1 in both normal neural stem cells and pediatric medulloblastoma stem cells. She aspires to become a pediatric neurosurgeon with specialty interest in pediatric neuro-oncology.
