Steven J. Schiff, MD, PhD, FAANS
Dr. Schiff is a pediatric neurosurgeon at Penn State University with particular interests in epilepsy, hydrocephalus, sustainable health engineering and global health. As the founding director of the Center for Neural Engineering at Penn State, he wrote the first book on neural control engineering published by the MIT Press in 2012. He received neurosurgery’s first NIH Director's Pioneer and Transformative Awards in 2015 and 2018, enabling him to focus on sustainable control of the infant infections in the developing world that generate the bulk of infant hydrocephalus cases and the greatest need for neurosurgery in young children worldwide.
