Joseph Piatt, MD, MAS
Dr. Piatt is chief of the division of neurosurgery at the Nemours Neuroscience Center at the A I duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Dela. and professor of neurological surgery and pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University. He earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania and received clinical training followed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Duke University Medical Center and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. After a tour on active duty in the United States Army at Ft Lewis, Washington, Dr. Piatt joined the faculty of the department of neurosurgery at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Ore., and served as the pediatric neurosurgeon to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and the Portland Shriners’ Hospital for Children. He worked as chief of the section of neurosurgery at St Christopher’s Hospital for Children. Dr. Piatt’s recent publications focus predominantly on hydrocephalus and the epidemiology of childhood craniospinal trauma. He recently earned a Master’s in applied statistics to advance his research interests in the epidemiology of pediatric neurosurgical conditions. From 1998 through 2008 he served, first, as a member of the Steering Committee and, subsequently, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Section on Neurological Surgery in the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was chair of the section from 2004 through 2008.
