Dr. Grace Yee Yan Lai MD

Grace Yee Yan Lai, MD
Dr. Grace Lai is a sixth year resident in neurological surgery at Northwestern University. She plans to specialize in pediatric neurosurgery with a primary research interest of post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH). She spent a research year at the Hospital for Sick Children working with Dr. James Drake studying how MR guided high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) can be used to break down intra-ventricular blood clots. There, she worked on developing a porcine model of PHH and characterizing the safety and efficacy of HIFU on intra-ventricular clot lysis. Dr. Lai is currently at Northwestern working with Dr. Sandi Lam, where they are building a collaborative research group with neonatal intensive care to investigate molecular mechanisms of PHH and develop preventative strategies to prevent hydrocephalus and minimize brain damage after IVH. She will be applying for pediatric neurosurgery fellowship next year.
