Anne Wildermuth PhD, PA-C, CAQ EM, RD

Dr. Anne Wildermuth, PhD, PA-C, CAQ EM, RD, is the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Recruitment at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). She is a practicing emergency medicine physician assistant (PA) and registered dietitian (RD) who began her academic medicine career in 2016. She is a proven leader with expertise in admissions, faculty development, program management, facilitation, hiring for success, team building, and teaching. She joined the USUHS College of Medicine faculty in 2022 in the Center for Health Professions Education, where she directs the leadership and clinical teaching courses and advises medical students, masters, and doctoral research learners across the Military Health System, Public Health System, and Veterans Health Administration. Prior to USUHS, she served as the Associate Program Director at the George Washington University PA Program and University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) PA Program. Dr. Wildermuth has considerable experience working with the US Military and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in PA education, appointed as the Interservice PA Program (IPAP) Department of Defense Project Lead by the US Army for five years and the CAF Civilian Liaison for three. In these roles, she supported program accreditation, education, and administration.

Dr. Wildermuth completed her PhD in Biomedicine in May 2022. Her experience as a PA program Admissions Director, as a College Admissions Steering Committee Chair, and running numerous faculty searches fuels her research interests of admissions, academic hiring, equity, leadership, and student and faculty success and retention. She has delivered numerous national presentations and workshops on holistic admissions, interviewing, hiring, career development, and evaluator training and has guided graduate health programs across several universities in implementing holistic admissions and hiring systems. One of her primary goals and areas of scholarship is increasing veteran enrollment and retention during medical training and within the profession. Her work emphasizes decreasing barriers to entering the health professions and highlighting the unique skills and experiences veteran students and providers bring, in addition to advocating for transparent, fair, and mission-based admissions and inclusive hiring. She is a grant-funded military medicine researcher and collaborates on research projects across the Department of Defense (DOD), Veteran’s Health Administration (VA), and other government organizations. She is well published in her areas of expertise. In 2022, she won the ASAHP J. Warren Perry Research and Publication Award for her research on holistic admissions. She holds national committee appointments for faculty development with the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Physician Assistant Education Association. She avidly seeks opportunities to collaborate with and support the DoD and military medicine communities through research, education, and clinical practice.
