Michael Karsy MD, PhD, MSc

Dr. Karsy is an Instructor in Neurosurgery at Drexel University College of Medicine and neurosurgeon at the Global Neuroscience Institute. He treats a variety of tumor, vascular, and spine pathologies through minimally-invasive endoscopic and traditional, open microsurgical approaches.

He completed his residency at the University of Utah. In addition to training, he completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine as well as Masters in Bioengineering specifically in medical device development at the University of Utah. Afterwards, he completed a fellowship in skull base and neurooncology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

His research interests are in improving health care outcomes and reducing surgical complications, novel surgical approaches and devices, as well as better molecular characterization of neurosurgical diseases. He has over 170 publications, 12 book chapters, and a surgical textbook. He is involved as a co-investigator on several trauma, critical care, and neurooncology clinical trials.
