Dr. Peter Le Roux MD
Peter Le Roux MD FACS, FNCS received his medical degree and doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and trained in Neurosurgery at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, USA. This included training at Atkinson Morley Hospital in London, England and research at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, France. He currently is Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Rochester.
Dr. Le Roux has a longstanding record in translational research in brain resuscitation and recovery and is an internationally known expert in subarachnoid hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury management and in neurocritical care. His basic science focused on factors that mediate neuronal dendrite growth. He is the editor of several textbooks including: “Management of Cerebral Aneurysms” (Elsevier, 2004) and “Monitoring in Neurocritical Care (Elsevier 2013), and a Section Editor (Basic Science) for Youman's Neurological Surgery (2010) and Section Editor (Cerebrovascular) for the upcoming edition of Youman and Winn's Neurological Surgery (2021). He has contributed to the traumatic brain injury guidelines for Emergency Neurological Life Support and the International Olympic Committee. Dr. Le Roux has given more than 330 invited lectures in 15 countries and published more than 230 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
He has been recognized with the Young Neurosurgeon Award from the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, the Charles A. Elsberg Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and is listed in US News and World Report's 'Top Doctors'; Best Doctors in America, Who’s Who in the World, America’s Top Surgeons and Philadelphia’s Top Doctors. In 2015 he received the Presidential Service Award from the Neurocritical Care Society. Dr. Le Roux also is a Dana Foundation fellow to examine the treatment of sports-related concussion and currently is an Independent Medical Safety Monitor, in BOOST-3, an NIH sponsored Phase III trial in traumatic brain injury.
